Description
The Kut Barrage is a Tigris River barrage located in the modern town of Kut, Wasit Governorate, Iraq. The barrage, which has 56 gates, is one of the longest in Iraq. In 1939, the people of the province built the Barrage under the supervision of the British. It is regarded as one of the most important Barrages in Iraq because it has an impact on storing water and can be used to generate electricity, but it was bombed with a missile by an American pilot in 1991 out of fear that it would not be used for this purpose. It is steadfast, and only a small portion of it was damaged before being restored.
